When looking to embark upon studies in religious or spiritual programs, it can be easy to cut the time required to do so. Something that is especially true for those willing to complete work towards a doctor of theology online. A few programs like those offered through the Universal Life Church and other esoteric universities can be completed in only a few months.

While some courses are only offered online, there are also a number of different four year universities which offer degrees in the area of divinity. These religious programs generally offer individuals the opportunity to focus on a specific faith, or, to pursue coursework as a comparative theologian. Often individuals can complete these programs in a short amount of time, especially with regards to online studies. Whereas, in others, it can take several years of classroom study to complete work towards obtaining these credentials.

Depending on the faith of the individual, some churches may accept such credentials while others may not. For those interested in setting up an online or physical church oneself, the Universal Life Church is most likely one of the best options. While there are minimal costs involved for credentials and study materials, the cost of going through the Universal Life Church or similar websites can often be quite less than the cost of completing work towards a traditional degree.

The types of courses can also vary widely depending on the interest of the individual. As such, most programs are vastly different from one another in context, style and length. Still, all generally offer an official certificate or degree upon successfully completing all requirements associated with the religion or religions in which an individual desires to base such study.

While this is the case, those having knowledge related to different areas of religious and spiritual studies are most likely going to be the most successful. Individuals with a strong sense of focus and self-determination can often complete some of these programs in only a few months time. As such, a number of people now opt for going through these online websites rather than spending years and thousands upon thousands of dollars to complete the college coursework required to obtain a traditional masters or doctorate in divinity.

For those looking to attend schools offering traditional degrees either through a seminary or divinity school, Harvard, Star King and others often allow some work to be completed online. Unlike those housed strictly online, most often students are required to complete a number of courses and work on campus. In some cases, individuals may also be required to intern at a specific location before completing work towards a masters or doctorate in any aspect of religious or spiritual studies.

Depending on the history of the individual, students may qualify to complete distance learning courses toward a traditional degree. When doing so through an accredited seminary or university, there are generally requirements that students must attend at least some coursework at the college or seminary of choice. Otherwise, it can be difficult for the school to judge the advancement of knowledge in relation to the student or provide testing as often required for graduation.

In addition to discussing past history and college credit, individuals may also want to research requirements as set forth by a specific church or faith. For while some programs allow individuals to work in different faiths and settings, most often churches, synagogues and temples have specific requirements. To assure a particular certificate or degree will be accepted by a denomination, it is often best to research these requirements before embarking upon a program.
